Now that you have decided the direction you want your marketing to take, it is time to get your tactics right. A basic marketing principal, the Marketing Mix contains the main tactics that will help you to achieve your targets.

It’s STar’s last day, before she hands over to BRANDi for a lesson in branding tomorrow.

She says: "The marketing mix is widely referred to as the Four Ps, and is made up of the following:"

  • Price
  • Place
  • Product
  • Promotion

As you will have worked out by now, the marketing mix principle involves creating a successful mix of the right product, sold at the right price, in the right place, using the most suitable promotion!

A simple process on the face of it, however STar insists that it requires considerable research, and a bit of experimenting, not unlike concocting Christmas lunch! Things to consider include:

  • What price represents value to the consumer?
  • What exactly are they asking for?
  • When is the best time to launch?
  • Which are the best distribution channels?
  • What are my competitors doing?
  • Shall I offer some sort of incentive?

These days the 4 P’s can be extended to include People, Processes and Physical Evidence, making it the 7 P’s. To find out more read the elves’ guide.
